Promising apprentice Angus Villiers enjoyed a highlight success in his first season in the saddle when winning on Fantasy Keeper on his first ride for Mick Appleby in the Jockey Club Grassroots Sprint Series final on the richest raceday at Nottingham.

More than £125,000 in prize-money was on offer at the East Midlands track with Appleby landing two of the Series finals, each worth £25,000, as the Theodore Ladd-ridden Deinonychus took the Middle Distance event.

Villiers, based with Richard Hughes, took his tally to 11 winners for the year and could be in for a big season in 2020 with Tony Hind booking his mounts.
