Bell fails to ring in a winner but delighted to be back

Although there was no fairytale return to the saddle for Sammy Jo Bell, the jockey was just pleased to be back race-riding.

Bell had been on the easy list since breaking her pelvis when Royal Duchess reared up in the paddock at Carlisle last May and left her wheelchair-bound and facing a long road to recovery.

Ten months on, the 26-year-old was all smiles at Dunstall Park even though her two comeback rides – Boogie Babe and Miss Goldsmith – failed to trouble the judge.
