Beggar's Wishes delivers the sting after quick-thinking Bowen grasps the nettle

Judgement of pace is vitally important in a jockey's armoury and Sean Bowen spectacularly put that to good use aboard Beggar’s Wishes in the feature 2m5f intermediate chase.

After not being satisfied with the slow gallop for two thirds of the contest, Bowen elected to gamble and kick his mount clear over a mile from home, with the tactic proving spot-on as the pair collected at the expense of Dolos.

Bowen’s father Peter, who trained the winner, said: "Sean has basically nicked the race with that move as he probably caught the other jockeys unawares. They were going no gallop and he decided to gamble – it's turned out to be a race-winning move."
