Becky Smith capped what she described as a "fairytale year" with success on Debatable to lift the amateur lady jockeys' title in style with her 11th winner of the campaign in the colours of one of her biggest supporters Craig Buckingham.

The title was already wrapped up but you would not have known that as Smith, head girl to trainer Micky Hammond, drove the Mick Appleby-trained Debatable to victory in the last leg of the championship.

It was some compensation for Buckingham back at the track where he had threatened to quit the sport last month after one of his horses was wrongly withdrawn before the valuable final of the grassroots series.
