Punters beware. There was a double reminder of the perils of betting in-running as two seemingly certain winners let backers down at long odds-on in just over an hour at Doncaster.

A total of £14,000 was matched at the minimum 1.01 on Betfair on Minellacelebration, who jumped the last fence three lengths clear in the veterans' chase only to be caught close home by Burtons Well, who rallied after forcing the pace in first-time cheekpieces.

Winning jockey Charlie Deutsch admitted: "I felt like I had some left but I wasn't sure I was going to win. He's battled back and it's helped us to have something to aim at. The other horse has flown past us. He was just looking around in front and he slowed up to the line a bit and I thought we might have a chance."
