Baron Samedi began his remarkable rise when winning a Cork handicap off a mark of 65 in August and five races later he recorded his most significant success in the Vintage Crop Stakes.

He won the Group 2 Prix du Conseil de Paris last season but his Group 3 victory on Sunday was arguably more notable as he showed he could do it on good ground and beat Melbourne Cup fourth Master Of Reality and Irish Derby winner Santiago.

The four-year-old provided young jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle with his first Group winner in finishing half a length clear of stablemate Master Of Reality.

Joseph O'Brien's assistant trainer Brendan Powell said: "He's just one of those unbelievable horses. He never knows when he's beaten. He seems to love a fight and he keeps quickening up.

"Dylan's a smashing rider and he thought Baron Samedi just floated away on the quick ground – the quickest he's run on. We just don't know when he'll stop improving. He has filled out a bit and he's an even bigger horse now. We'll see what happens from here."

The son of Harbour Watch was given an introductory quote of 25-1 for the Gold Cup at Ascot in June by Paddy Power.

Sky rockets home

Ross O'Sullivan recorded the biggest success of his relatively short training career when 33-1 shot Rocky Sky won the Listed Salsabil Stakes.

Rocky Sky took the lead early in the straight and kicked clear of her rivals to land the 1m2f race by four and a quarter lengths from French Fusion. She had finished second in a Listed contest last month.

Jockey Gary Halpin said: "I knew she would be competitive stepping up in trip on turf. She's one to look forward to. She has plenty of pace and perhaps this trip suits her for now."

Magic has their measure

Measure Of Magic showcased her credentials for six furlongs when landing the Listed Committed Stakes for trainer Johnny Murtagh.

She kept on strongly in the closing stages under Ben Coen to beat Logo Hunter by three-quarters of a length in the 5½f contest and the winning jockey said: "She's strengthened up well and will get six furlongs. She has loads of speed and going five or six furlongs won't make a difference."
