John Gosden, busy at Book 2 of Tattersalls October Yearling sales and unable to attend the penultimate meeting of the year on the North Denes, missed a treat when Azano bolted up in the 7f novice stakes.

The 7-1 chance wore a hood in the preliminaries, but there was no hiding his potential in the race when he scored by five lengths from stablemate Frederickbarbarosa.

The race was won in similar fashion by the smart Willie John a year ago and Azano may well be in the same bracket, even though morning favourite Turjomaan was an absentee.
