Adam Kirby, out of luck at Leicester in the afternoon, made the trip to Dunstall Park for the evening shift pay off handsomely when steering the impressive Awsaaf to a very comfortable debut victory in the 6f novice contest.

Despite running green in the closing stages, Simon Crisford's charge was always well in control and Kirby had only to nudge him out close to the line for a two-and-a-quarter-length call over Our Man In Havana.

Veteran rider John Egan showed he can still teach the youngsters a trick or two in the tactics stakes when delivering the John Butler-trained Absolutely Awesome with a winning run up the inside of the course to land the 5f handicap.
