North Hill Harvey followed up his victory in the Greatwood Hurdle on the same day last year with a commanding win in the Arkle trial, coming home 18 lengths in front and laying down a serious marker for the Racing Post Arkle itself at the festival.

Just three runners turned up for the trial and one, River Wylde, who was sent off evens favourite, ran no sort of race and faded quickly after coming off the bridle following the final ditch. Ozzie The Oscar, the last of the trio, challenged until hitting the third-last and finished so tired that he was beaten for second late on.

Notwithstanding his rivals' failings, it was a capable performance by North Hill Harvey, who is now a best-priced 16-1 (from 25) for the Arkle.
