Apprentice Egan gets the better of De Sousa to land feature race
A first spin round the course proved memorable for apprentice David Egan, as he outpointed reigning champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa when riding Stosur to land the feature £15,000 handicap.
Egan, the son of jockey John Egan, was receiving lumps of weight from De Sousa, who was aboard favourite Bint Dandy, and he got Gay Kelleway's mare up by a head.
"It was a good winner to get and I'm thankful for the ride," Egan said. "Stosur battled well to the line and when Silvestre came to me she stuck her neck out."
