Angels Breath made a terrific start to life over fences with an eight-length romp in the 2m3f novice chase at Ascot.

The four-runner field were set a strong gallop by the Kim Bailey-trained First Flow, but Angels Breath stuck with him all the way with some sublime jumping before taking the lead two out and cruising home to the delight of trainer Nicky Henderson, with his other runner Birchdale finishing 24 lengths behind First Flow in third.

“He was slick, wasn’t he?” said Henderson. “It was a good, proper gallop and Birchdale couldn’t go with them. I didn’t quite think he’d get so outpaced but Angels Breath should come on a fair bit for it. He was very good with his jumping.
