Awesome, wasn't he? Those were the words of Harry Angel's trainer Clive Cox and no objective observer would have been inclined to disagree.

The three-year-old colt blew his rivals away in the Armstrong Aggregates Sandy Lane Stakes and smashed the track record in the process.

He covered the six furlongs in 1min 8.56sec, 1.36 faster than the previous best set over 20 years ago. Ground conditions were quick and runner-up Second Thought also beat the old record – but the fact he was four and a half lengths adrift underlined the winner's dominance.
