The three-runner 3m1f novice chase looked a race to relish for it featured two potentially smart performers having their first run over fences, last year's Pertemps favourite Impulsive Star and the Brian Ellison-trained Tomngerry, who won two of his four races over hurdles.

Sadly as a spectacle it was a damp squib with the two main protagonists both falling independently at the 15th fence, leaving the 11-2 outsider of the three, Alzammaar and Jonathan England, to come home alone.

The winner is trained by the rider's wife Sam and is part owned by her along with the Sandmoor Partnership of John Mott, Jerry Green and Geoff Fox, who all play at Sandmoor Golf Club in Leeds. They collected all the £12,000 prize-money.
