Allaho lays down a late Cheltenham marker for Mullins and Walsh
Willie Mullins has admitted he lacks the firepower we have become accustomed to expect in Cheltenham's novice hurdle events this season, but Allaho threw his hat into the ring for the Ballymore and Albert Bartlett as he landed the competitive-looking Grade 3 Surehaul Mercedes-Benz Novice Hurdle on his first effort over Irish hurdles.
In the silks of Cheveley Park Stud, the five-year-old belied his lack of experience with a good round of jumping and despite being quite keen he picked up well to see off the challenge of the front-running Minella Indo by four lengths.
He was shortened to a general 16-1 shot for the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle, but his trainer may well decide to go for the Ballymore Novices' Hurdle, for which he is a best-priced 40-1 with Coral.
