Alice Springs may have had to play second fiddle to stablemate Minding this season but she has quietly carved out a remarkable campaign of her own, with yesterday's victory in the Sun Chariot Stakes her third at Group 1 level – and she may not be done yet.

In holding off Always Smile by three-quarters of a length to justify 13-8 favouritism and take the Sun Chariot Stakes, Alice Springs set up a shot at the Breeders' Cup Mile at Santa Anita next month.
