Algometer looks set to chase Group 1 riches abroad after taking the notable scalp of Royal Ascot winner Dartmouth on his first run since the Derby in the Group 3 Dubai Duty Free Legacy Cup.

Seventh at Epsom when perhaps not handling the unique contours of the downs, Algometer looked content on the level playing field of Newbury’s rain-softened turf as he held Dartmouth’s late charge by three-quarters of a length.

“It was a good performance,” said winning trainer David Simcock, enjoying a purple patch as Algometer made it seven winners from his last 16 runners.
