Eyecatching, that's Alfa McGuire. He's a big, imposing colt and was as eyecatching in the race as he was in the paddock as he strode away from his rivals to land the 7½f novice.

Ridden by Graham Lee, he raced just off the pace initially, moved up on the bridle early in the straight and, though a bit green when he first hit the front, soon went clear to score by five lengths and make it two wins – both of them here – from four starts.

He runs in the colours of Alfa Site Services and is trained by Bryan Smart, who bought him for £11,000 at the St Leger sales a year ago.
