James Bowen showed just why he's about to be crowned champion conditional jockey with a perfectly-judged ride to reach 50 winners for the season on Dakota Grey.

The teenager was content to bide his time behind keen-going front-runner Saint Freule, who was still clear turning for home, and caught him at the final flight for a length-and-a-half conditional jockeys' hurdle victory on a horse who had not scored for more than two years.

"That's his first ride for us," said delighted trainer Micky Hammond. "I've known his father for a long time and it's nice he's ridden a winner for us.
