You could be forgiven for thinking luck was doubly against Rubytwo, who was bidding to score for the first time over hurdles at the 13th attempt on Friday the 13th, but she blew away those superstitions when landing the 2m4½f mares' maiden hurdle for Nicky Richards.

The eight-year-old, who finished runner-up six times over obstacles, also scooped an additional £20,000 for her owners David and Nicky Robinson as part of the Great British Bonus scheme (GBB).

"She had every right to win," said Richards. "The cheekpieces helped her concentrate. It's a nice bonus for David and Nicky too. They're great supporters of northern racing. She won a valuable bumper, so she's won decent pots both times she's won – thank god."
