109-1 in-running: Sam Ewing at his best aboard Gordon Elliott-trained newcomer

Teenage talent Sam Ewing was seen at his very best in the 2m½f maiden hurdle as he galvanised point-to-point recruit The Moon Sea's Me to record an unlikely win after trading at 109-1 in-running.

Trained by Gordon Elliott, the winner showed a fine attitude and was bought for €110,000 after making a winning debut at Monksgrange for Aidan Fitzgerald in April.

It had looked as though 11-10 favourite The Folkes Tiara, representing Rachael Blackmore and Henry de Bromhead, would prove difficult to catch approaching the final flight, but Ewing never gave up on his 100-30 shot.

A powerful finishing effort from the five-year-old mare saw her prevail by a widening length and a quarter, with 18 lengths back to the third-placed Malinas Glory.

Speaking to Racing TV, Ewing said: "Maybe the trip was a little bit sharp for her but she's honest, tough and got there in the end. I had to keep filling her up and keep up the momentum.

"She jumped brilliantly and was very clever the whole way. Hopefully she continues to do that. Once we came down the hill on the nicer ground, she went away again and she picked up really well."

Doyle on the mark

Trainer Tim Doyle executed a fine piece of training to land the 3m handicap hurdle with ten-year-old Cher Why Not, who was returning from a 194-day layoff.

A cool ride from 7lb claimer Cian Quirke helped the veteran campaigner record the second win of his career, having had just two runs since March 2019 prior to this 25-1 strike.

It was also Doyle's first winner since October 2021.
