Tom Dascombe out to spike Futurity big guns with Great Scot

Tom Dascombe is relishing the prospect of taking on two of Flat racing’s powerhouses in the Group 1 Vertem Futurity Trophy on Saturday when he bids to take down contenders from the Aidan O’Brien and John Gosden stables with underdog Great Scot.

Bought back as a yearling for just £2,500, the Requinto colt has made giant strides this campaign, winning the Listed Ascendant Stakes at Haydock on his most recent outing, his third victory in four starts.

Great Scot's sole defeat this season came when beaten a head in a Listed contest in Deauville in August, recovering from a slow start almost to catch Al Hilalee and Duke Of Hazzard, who was successful at Listed level in France on Wednesday.
