The Racecourse Association has argued that tracks are already working hard to fight the anti-social behaviour that triggered scathing criticism from Richard Hughes in his Racing Post column last Saturday and led to a host of reader comments supporting the former champion jockey.

Hughes was at Lingfield 13 days ago and witnessed two fights. A further fight, this time involving 20 people, took place at Lingfield last Saturday evening, one day after a similar incident at Uttoxeter.

"All we could see was a sea of people carrying beer," wrote Hughes, adding of the second fight: "We witnessed a man being knocked clean out after he fell off the wall where he had been standing when hit.
