Racing live: Bryony Frost conjures up 999-1 win at Southwell
Southwell has seen some crazy races over the years and Monday’s opening handicap chase added another entry as Silent Steps defied in-running odds of 999-1 after two rivals traded at 1.04 on the Betfair exchange.
The drama started when 3-1 favourite Shanty Alley, a morning gamble, fell at the first in the home straight when in a clear lead.
Closest rival Inch Lala clambered over the second-last under strong pressure from Adam Wedge but was nearly walking in the heavy ground and Bryony Frost was finally getting a response from Silent Steps, who had been a detached last for most of the last circuit.

Those who had laid the £57 put up at 999-1 on 7-2 second favourite Silent Steps knew their fate as Frost got a flying leap at the last for the unlikeliest of six-length successes.
The race brought back memories of the famous 999-1 success of Sir Anthony McCoy after he remounted odds-on Family Business, who had unseated him, to win another staying chase at the track in January 2002 after his six rivals had fallen, refused or pulled up.
Frost made sure normal service was resumed when completing a double on favourite Little Light in the 2m handicap chase.
Golan Cloud attracts money at Kelso
The action at Kelso was being staged behind closed doors after gatherings of more than 500 people were outlawed by the Scottish government due to the coronavirus outbreak, but there are no restrictions at Southwell and Hereford.
Kelso's six-race card attracted 35 declarations and Golan Cloud (4.40) has caught the eye of punters with his price cut to 5-1 (from 9).
Golan Cloud has become the main threat to odds-on favourite Project Mars in the market and it looks an interesting move as the Jennie Candlish-trained seven-year-old has been beaten by at least 20 lengths in all ten starts bar his debut.
The Edgar Wallace, runner-up at Doncaster last month, is no bigger than 1-2 (from 4-6) for the bumper at Hereford at 4.50.
