Peace and goodwill to all men has been in increasingly short supply since Arc revealed its prize-money plans this week.

The financial pressure facing Britain's tracks has been illustrated again by Jockey Club Racecourses' announcement it is freezing its contribution to prize-money after years of growth.

Nevertheless, while JCR has said it will keep the situation under review, its decision to hold rather than reduce its contributions will play well with the sport's participants.
