Saturday's Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle looked a formality for two-time winner and sole top-level scorer Buveur D'Air, but it became evident the 2-13 favourite was in a spot of bother as the race began to unfold. Henry Brooke's enterprise in pinching several lengths at the start on outsider Cornerstone Lad proved the telling blow, with the pair holding on for a short-head victory to land a major Grade 1 surprise.
