Quiet Reflection could not end her fairytale career with another Group 1 win when only tenth in the British Champions Sprint at Ascot on Saturday, but it should be a case of happy ever after as she now heads to the Tattersalls December Mares Sales in December.

Trainer Karl Burke said on Sunday: "Quiet Reflection has been an amazing horse for all of us connected to her.

"From day one she's been a pleasure to be around, not only for her ability but for her character and temperament, something which I'm sure will be a huge benefit for her next career as a broodmare. I hope one day I'm lucky enough to train one of her foals.

"While for publicity and pure occasion her win in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot will long remain in my memory, for me her Haydock Sprint Cup win last year was a special performance and confirmed her as a superb three-year-old sprinter."

'Social media has gone mental'

Simon Bridge, co-founder of the successful Ontoawinner syndicate, had mixed emotions having been with Burke when they bought Quiet Reflection at the Goffs breeze-ups in 2015.

He said: "We could never imagine what she'd do – she's been some flagbearer and our Twitter and Facebook accounts have gone mental, which shows she's touched a lot of people's hearts.

"It's been a bit of a fairytale, a brilliant journey for the syndicate of ten, and it's just sad Saturday was disappointing; it was only the third time she'd finished out of the money in her 13 races – all bar one of them Group races.

"She travelled superbly well and when Martin [Harley] pulled her out everyone thought she had it in her, but she didn't quicken up like she did last year and it was one of the best sprints for many a year."

The four-year-old won eight times and earned more than £650,000 in prize-money.

Ontoawinner has another big day ahead as their colours are due to be carried by the Archie Watson-trained juvenile Corinthia Knight at the Breeders' Cup next month.
