Punters enjoy less luck despite exploits of Tiger Roll and Frankie Dettori

After a torrid first three months of 2019, bookmakers will have been wanting racing results to normalise in the second quarter of the year – and so will British racing's leaders.

According to figures compiled by the Racing Post, that appears to have happened.

In the first quarter of the year, the proportion of winning favourites in British racing increased by almost three percentage points over the equivalent period in 2018 to 37.6 per cent.
