Punchestown tips: one key runner from the eight races at the festival on Tuesday

3.40 Punchestown
Howden Insurance Brokers Mares' Novice Hurdle (Listed Race), 2m½f

Grangee steps down in trip after disappointing last time out. Given her performance in the Mares’ Novices' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival on her penultimate start, where she finished ahead of the reopposing Party Central and Dinoblue, she looks the one to watch with Paul Townend booked to ride.

SPOTLIGHT TIP: Party Central

A good-class renewal in which she gets the nod back on better ground, following a below-par Cheltenham effort on soft, where she finished behind Grangee

Bective Stud Champion Novice Hurdle, 2m½f

Willie Mullins has a habit of winning this – only Jessica Harrington and Don't Touch It have interrupted him since 2014 – and he appears to hold the aces once more with Sir Gerhard and Dysart Dynamo.

SPOTLIGHT TIP: Sir Gerhard

The Ballymore winner has enough speed to cope with Dysart Dynamo at this trip and is a more straightforward type than his keen-running stablemate

Killashee Hotel Handicap Hurdle, 2m½f

Mick Halford, better known for his Flat exploits, has done a fine job managing Ardla, a capable hurdler who was only two and a half lengths behind Cheltenham Festival winner Bambridge when last seen in January.

SPOTLIGHT TIP: Glan

There could be more improvement to come from him as he accounted for several of these at Fairyhouse and is now 7lb higher

William Hill Champion Chase, 2m

Queen Mother Champion Chase hero Energumene is the star name on the card and is likely to be favoured by punters over stablemate Chacun Pour Soi, who unseated at the festival but has a fearsome record in Ireland.

SPOTLIGHT TIP: Energumene

Last year's winner Chacun Pour Soi will have his work cut out to cope with younger stablemate who had Envoi Allen back in third when a decisive winner of the Champion Chase at Cheltenham

Goffs Land Rover Bumper, 2m½f

Not many with experience in the field, but Irish Envoy has had a race and won it in good style for trainer Liz Doyle, who did not hesitate when mentioning this race as the next stop. Another to note is Caldwell Potter, who is a full brother to the yard’s smart Mighty Potter.

SPOTLIGHT TIP: Caldwell Potter

Gordon Elliott runs four and can hit the target with this €200,000 purchase who is by far the most expensive horse in the race

Dooley Insurance Group Champion Novice Chase, 3m½f

There is no Galopin Des Champs for Bob Olinger to worry about this time, but he did win at Cheltenham after his galloping rival departed and Henry de Bromhead's inmate retains the potential to be a superstar.

SPOTLIGHT TIP: Bob Olinger

On his first attempt at 3m, he can maintain his unbeaten record chasing

Kildare Hunt Club Cross Country Chase for the Ladies' Perpetual Cup, 3m1f

When it comes to this cross-country contest, there is one place to start: Enda Bolger. The trainer has taken six of the last ten renewals and only runs one in the contest, De Nordener, who is unraced under rules and owned by JP McManus.

SPOTLIGHT TIP: De Nordener

Enda Bolger is peerless in this specialist arena and he is sure to be well primed for this

7.45 Punchestown
Mick The Tent INH Flat Race, 2m½f

The Flat race which ends the card may fall to Firm Footings. The most expensive purchase in the field at €220,000, he goes for serial bumper-winning trainer Gordon Elliott and is a half-brother to the smart Monalee.

SPOTLIGHT TIP: Firm Footings

Likely to go to a newcomer, he is preferred over Lisnagar Fortune
