Punchestown festival tips: Tuesday's best bets from Racing Post experts

Day one of the Punchestown festival is here – but who do our top tipsters fancy most?

Ardla

Race: Killashee Hotel Handicap Hurdle (4.50)

Odds: 9-2

Mick Halford is better known for saddling runners at major Flat festivals as opposed to the jumps finale at Punchestown, but he looks to have a live chance of registering a valuable handicap hurdle winner in the shape of Ardla on Tuesday. Nestled towards the bottom of the weights, this unexposed course bumper winner could be well handicapped off a mark of 125.

Dysart Dynamo

Odds: 15-8

While arriving off the back of a fall in the Supreme is not ideal, Dysart Dynamo had yet to be asked a question and might have finished a clear second to freakish talent Constitution Hill (subsequent Grade 1 winner Jonbon was the runner-up) if staying on his feet.

The market is factoring in Paul Townend's booking on Sir Gerhard too greatly and do not forget that he was beaten at odds-on by Kilcruit and 124-rated hurdler O'Toole at this meeting last season, after winning at the Cheltenham Festival, whereas Dysart Dynamo is unbeaten at the track and evidently loves it here.

Chacun Pour Soi

Race: William Hill Champion Chase (5.25)

Odds: 13-8

While Paul Townend and the market favour Cheltenham winner Energumene, Punchestown in April has belonged to Chacun Pour Soi and that can be the case once more.

He first showed his star quality when beating Defi Du Seuil in the Grade 1 novice chase in 2019 on just his third start over fences, and the demolition job he did on Allaho and Nube Negra in this race last year was a career best. A reproduction of that would make beating him an extremely formidable challenge.
