Profitable trainers and an in-form jockey - key stats for Friday's cards
There are three meetings on Friday at Southwell, Newcastle and Dundalk. Here are statistics from each track which could help your punting . . .
Southwell
Richard Hughes has his string in good order and is worth following at Southwell, where his runners are operating at a 30 per cent strike-rate in the last five years and have yielded a £19.80 profit to a £1 level stake.
He has one runner at the track on Friday inVillalobos(2.20), who went down by just a head when attempting to score at Lingfield last time out.
The four-year-old has improved for the recent addition of cheekpieces and although he is up a pound for that Lingfield defeat, he looks a big player on a track which should play to his strengths.
Newcastle
Archie Watson has been a trainer to follow at Newcastle, having sent out 31 winners from 118 runners. That 26 per cent strike-rate has produced a level-stakes profit of £48.49.
He has two runners on Friday’s seven-race card, with First Snowfall taking her chance in the opening 1m2f handicap (3.45) and Dusky Prince lining up in a 5f handicap (5.45).
First Snowfall was an impressive winner over the same course and distance last week and comes into this race 2lb well in, so will be popular with punters in her bid to follow up.
Dundalk
Billy Lee kicked off 2023 with a 16-1 double at Dundalk on Wednesday, and he returns to the track on Friday with a strong book of rides.
All five mounts can be considered, with Lee’s first two rides – Tynamite(3.55) and Jered Maddox(4.30) – both coming for trainer David Marnane.
Lee teams up with Henry de Bromhead for the ride aboard Annexation(5.00), a horse whose last win came over this course and distance just under a year ago. He finds himself only 2lb higher on Friday and is fit from a recent spin over hurdles.
Longtime ally Willie McCreery has Lee aboard Lily Maguire(6.00) in the 7f fillies maiden, before Maritime Rules(6.30) provides the jockey's final chance of the day.
Billy Lee's rides at Dundalk
3.55 Tynamite
4.30 Jered Maddox
5.00 Annexation
6.00 Lily Maguire
6.30 Maritime Rules
