Prairie Falcon is now as short as 9-2 to scoop the valuable £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes (2.06 Newmarket), in which he bids to enhance William Buick and trainer Michael Dods' fine record when teaming up.

The son of Belardo is closing in on favourite Amichi, having been 16-1 with most bookmakers on Friday and 15-2 on Saturday morning, to back up his recent victory in a 6f nursery at Ayr's Gold Cup meeting.

Buick and Dods rarely team up but have a red-hot 50 strike-rate when they do so, with the jockey having ridden three winners from six rides for the trainer during his career.

At Ascot, course specialist Fresh is now favourite to enhance his fine record at the track with success in the feature Peroni Nastro Azzuro Challenge Cup (3.36).

The five-year-old seeks a course-and-distance hat-trick, having landed the valuable International Stakes at the King George meeting before winning here in September, and is now the 4-1 market leader (from 5).

Prix du Cadran outsider backed overnight to upset Kyprios

At Longchamp, outsider Skazino has been backed to upset star stayer Kyprios in the Qatar Prix du Cadran (3.25) on Saturday as Arc weekend gets under way with a high-class card at Longchamp.

The six-year-old is a three-time Group 2 winner over staying trips in France and finished fourth behind Trueshan in the race a year ago, but could finish only third when defending his Prix Kergorlay crown at Deauville in August.

However, Skazino has been backed overnight to get back to winning ways in France's premier staying contest and pick up a first top-level triumph. He is now as short as 11-1 with Paddy Power and Betfair Sportsbook, having been an 18-1 shot on Friday.

Kyprios, the Ascot Gold Cup, Goodwood Cup and Irish St Leger hero, remains the 4-5 favourite to pick up a fourth Group 1 in succession, with runaway Lonsdale Cup winner Quickthorn the 100-30 second favourite.

In the Qatar Prix Dollar (4.00), popular performer Addeybb has been quietly supported into 6-1 (from 7) to pick up his first win since defeating Verry Elleegant in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick in April 2021.
