Plenty have tried and few have succeeded but Mark Johnston is never one to shirk a challenge or to be put off by the failure of others.

Lyric Fantasy (1992) and Kingsgate Native (2007) are the only two-year-olds to have won the Nunthorpe Stakes in the last half-century and the last eight to try have all been beaten.

But Yalta looks just the sort of juvenile to take full advantage of the 19lb and more he receives from his elders thanks to the weight-for-age scale.
