Yorkhill back to Ballybrit for the second time this week after Plate unseat
Will the real Yorkhill please stand up? Brilliantly talented at his best but harder to predict than the EuroMillions numbers at times, Willie Mullins' enigmatic chaser returns for a second bite of the Ballybrit cherry having unseated early in Wednesday's Galway Plate.
The 2m6½f chase (4.30) looks a fantastic opportunity for the Andrea and Graham Wylie-owned nine-year-old to hit the target, although he is without a win since striking at the 2017 Cheltenham Festival.
The seven-strong line-up also includes Yorkhill's stablemate Some Neck, whose withdrawal from Wednesday's Plate prompted the stewards to refer the matter to the chief executive of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board for further investigation.
Nicky Henderson's Theinval and A Toi Phil, who turns out quickly after being let down by his jumping in the Plate, also feature.
Yorkhill – who is clear on ratings – doesn't need to be at his best to take this, but it seems a case of all duck or no dinner with the mount of Paul Townend these days.
Festival double-seekers lock horns in tricky handicap
Going to the well twice in the same week at the Galway festival is no mean feat, but connections of Monday's impressive handicap hurdle scorer Linger will be hoping he can strike twice.
The Joseph O'Brien-trained six-year-old lines up in the 1m6f handicap (5.30), and is bidding to strike on the Flat for the second time this season.
Brendan Powell, representing O'Brien, said: "He's been handed a tough draw, which is an inconvenience as he likes to race prominently enough, but you'd be hoping there's more to come from him off a mark of 65 on the Flat.
"He's come out of his hurdles win in good order and was impressive then – the handicapper raised him 12lb."
Another festival double-seeker is Upgraded, who hails from the in-form Tony Martin stable, but she hasn't been helped by a tough draw in stall 19.
The Galway Hurdle-winning trainer said: "Upgraded has been given a terrible draw and we're opting to take 7lb off with Gavin Ryan due to the 6lb penalty.
"Fingers crossed my other runner Acclamatio can run a big race, though. He's in great form coming into this and we're looking forward to it."
