Ireland doing well in British handicaps is nothing new, but doing so in the Ebor is a relatively recent trend.

When the Aidan O'Brien-trained three-year-old Mediterranean won the race in 2001, he became only the sixth Irish-trained winner of the staying showpiece on the Knavesmire and the first since Bonne Noel in 1973.

Since then there have been six more and they have all come in the last 13 years. Indeed, four of them have come since 2014. So what has changed?
