Why victory for Mr Incredible may prove bittersweet for his training equivalent

Of all the sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these: 'It might have been.' Could this poetic couplet from 150 years ago be revived on Saturday in the mind of Willie Mullins?

Pretty much everything is rosy in the professional life of the Closutton maestro, who dominates jump racing in a way no one ever has done before. But if his Mr Incredible should happen to win Warwick's feature race, the Wigley Group Classic Handicap Chase, it may be the cause of wistfulness as well as joy for the trainer.

Just over a fortnight ago, two days after Christmas, Mullins won every race but one on a prestigious and valuable card at Leopardstown. Two Grade 1s, a big-field handicap hurdle, a maiden hurdle, a beginners' chase and a bumper all fell to him. His main difficulty was getting out of the winner's enclosure for long enough to saddle his runners.
