Where is the love? Why you should be excited about this superstar juvenile
It may not surprise you to learn that, in every year since 2014, the world's leading two-year-old colt on turf has been the Dewhurst winner. I certainly would not have been laying big odds before looking up the RPRs. More of a surprise is how far clear the Dewhurst winner can be from their peers.
Pinatubo was 4lb clear and 9lb better than anything in Europe. Too Darn Hot was 3lb better than anything else, as was US Navy Flag. Air Force Blue was the most dominant, with a 5lb advantage. These are not fine margins.
You would not have got rich backing them either. Short-priced winners of the race are pretty common, six of the last ten have been evens or shorter, but it has not stopped winners like Dawn Approach, Churchill, Too Darn Hot and Pinatubo keeping Flat fans warm through the winter.
