'When the horses come back to him Bronze Angel catches fire'
If past trends are anything to go by, Bronze Angel will win a third Betfred Cambridgeshire on Saturday. The popular seven-year-old makes his fifth appearance in the annual cavalry charge and, judged on his previous record, a third win in one of the hottest handicaps of the year is no forlorn hope.
He won the race at the first attempt in 2012, finished 23rd in 2013, regained his crown in 2014 and then managed 21st spot last year. That sequence suggests he is due another success.
“It’s a slightly different scenario this year,” says trainer Marcus Tregoning, Bronze Angel’s one and only trainer throughout his five-year career. “He’s coming in off a long absence as we weren’t right at the start of the year so we weren’t able to get the runs in. The good thing is he’s a fresh horse and I think he’s had quite a decent preparation for the race. But he is seven.”
