Today marks the start of the three-day Brighton August festival. If you have never been to the course, one of the most unique in Britain, you really should make a visit - it is worth the drive.

The feature race on this afternoon's eight-race card is the £20,000 Hobgoblin Brighton Mile Challenge Trophy (3.20) with Sylvester Kirk hoping for back-to-back wins with topweight Cricklewood Green. Carroll is represented by Admirable Art and Pour La Victoire in the main event, while stablemate De Vegas Kid looks to have strong claims in division one of the 6f210y handicap (4.50).

Racing also takes place at Bath and Pontefract this afternoon, while meetings at Yarmouth, Kempton and Sligo grace television screens this evening.
