Silvestre de Sousa
Silvestre de Sousa: will be in action at Pontefract on TuesdayCredit: Edward Whitaker

Pontefract saves a tepid Tuesday with its Listed race that shines out like a lighthouse in a sea of class five and six races elsewhere in the calm before the weekend storm.

Eyes will be on the Roger Varian-trained filly Dawn Of Hope, last seen running behind Qemah in the Group 2 Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot last month.

Evening meetings at Uttoxeter and Roscommon, where Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott have interesting runners, keep jump fans happy.

Final thought

Silvestre de Sousa added another double at Ripon on Monday, evening to extend his jockeys' title lead, and has another fine book of six rides at Pontefract today. His trend to have only outsiders in the big races continues as his Listed-race ride Summer Icon is longest-priced of his rides at 16-1.
