Well-related Makzeem can follow up course-and-distance victory
bet365 Handicap (Silver Bunbury Cup) | 7f | 3yo+ | ITV3/RUK
This race was first run two years ago as a consolation prize for horses not making the cut for Saturday’s Bet365 Bunbury Cup and four-year-olds have prevailed in both runnings to date.
Roger Charlton’s Makzeem, who is set to be partnered by Ryan Moore for the third consecutive run, heads that age group at the top of the handicap but has to carry a 6lb penalty for his course-and-distance victory over Supersta.
Although that race was run on ground officially described as good to soft, the relatively unexposed relation of multiple Group 1 winner Al Kazeem appears to handle most types of going as he was also successful on much faster conditions at Windsor last summer
What they say
Charles Hills, trainer of Gunmetal
He has been running over six furlongs but has won over seven furlongs on this course just over a year ago, so it's worth a go in such a valuable handicap.
Mark Usher, trainer of Miracle Of Medinah
He hasn't won for quite a long time and has become something of a victim of the handicap system as there's very little room for manoeuvre with horses like him. The quicker the ground the better and he worked well last Thursday so we're hopeful he can run a good race.
Richard Hannon, trainer of War Glory
He's had a nice break since his last run and has come back in really good form. The track and trip are fine for him and we expect a good showing.
Richard Fahey, trainer of Stamp Hill
He has been a fraction disappointing so we're trying him in cheekpieces for the first time. I'm hoping the ground isn't too quick for him as he has been in good form at home recently.
Ian Williams, trainer of Shady McCoy
A fast pace suits him ideally so things should be in his favour as it looks like they are going to go a strong gallop. He might be a little bit high in the handicap but if things pan out for him, he has his chance.
