Weld pitches impressive maiden winner Jaega in at the deep end

Jaega, a decisive winner on testing ground on her debut at Leopardstown last month, faces five rivals in this event named after her trainer Dermot Weld's first Classic winner, Blue Wind, who won the Epsom and Irish Oaks in 1981.

The daughter of Fastnet Rock holds Group 1 entries in the Pretty Polly Stakes and the Irish Oaks and speaking on Friday Weld, who has sent out four winners of the race, said: "Jaega was impressive winning her maiden but this will be a much bigger test for her. However, she's well and we're expecting a good run."

Aidan O'Brien is represented by the five-year-old Clear Skies and the three-year-olds Bye Bye Baby and Easter Lily:

The trainer said: "We think Bye Bye Baby has come on a lot since her run in the Salsabil Stakes at Navan while we're hoping Easter Lily, who also ran in the Navan race, might earn some black type and it's the same story with Clear Skies."

Panstarr, runner-up in the Group 3 Lodge Park Stud Stakes at Naas on the opening day of the season, represents Jim Bolger, the most successful trainer in the history of the race who last won the event with Pleascach in 2015.

Completing the line-up is the Jessica Harrington-trained I'm So Fancy, who was placed at this level and in Listed company last season.

The ground at the Curragh changed to heavy on Friday and conditions will suit Kyllang Rock, one of two British challengers in the Listed Sole Power Sprint Stakes (3.20).

James Tate, trainer of the four-year-old, said on Friday: "He's coming off a career-best run when winning at Musselburgh first time up on heavy ground. It looks like we'll get similar ground so we are very optimistic."

Ardhoomey, runner-up in the inaugural running of the race a year ago, and Primo Uomo, who landed the Woodlands Stakes at Navan on his most recent start, head the home team in the 5f event.
