Unbeaten Lampang out to land another Rockingham Stakes for Tim Easterby
coral.co.uk Rockingham Stakes (Listed) | 6f | 2yo | ITV/RTV
Tim Easterby has won this three times since 2012 and looks the man to beat once again with Lampang, whom he has called 'as good as we've trained for a long time'.
The King Power Racing juvenile has created a highly favourable impression in two outings in lesser company, defying a slow start and greenness to make a winning debut at Carlisle then bolting up under a penalty at Ripon.
"He's in good form and he did it really nicely at Ripon last time,” the trainer said.
"I don't think the ground will be a problem at all, he should be fine on it."
Going concern for big Irish winner
Michael Bell has been eyeing this Listed prize ever since Stone Circle landed the lucrative Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sale Stakes at the Curragh last month.
But the recent rain is a concern for a colt who was withdrawn from a novice event here back in June as the ground was too testing.
"I hope the ground doesn't get too soft but he won well in Ireland last time and should be very competitive," the trainer said.
Cobra may be poised to strike
John Quinn hopes Cobra Eye can make up for lost time when he finally makes it to York, nearly two months late.
Quinn's Goodwood maiden winner was due to tackle the Acomb Stakes at the Ebor meeting, only to suffer a cut leg which forced him to be pulled out.
Phoenix Thoroughbreds' €150,000 yearling is reported in decent shape now and his trainer said: "He's in good fettle, I'm happy with him. He won a competitive maiden at Goodwood.
"He went on softish ground the first time he ran at Haydock and I expect a good run out of him."
What they say:
Karl Burke, trainer of Jamais Assez
I think his rating understates his ability as he's been unlucky on his last two runs at Haydock. He should get a decent gallop here and he'll handle the ground as well.
Richard Fahey, trainer of Ventura Lightning
He didn't have a great trip over to France and his run there was very disappointing. But if he comes back to his Irish form he has every chance.
Iain Jardine, trainer of Orlaith
She's progressing and I wouldn't worry about her last run at Ayr, where the ground dried up and she got into an awkward position. She's strengthened up a lot, she handled the soft ground well at Newbury and she's in good order so should run a big race.
David Loughnane, trainer of Stormy Girl
We're not there to make up the numbers, she's a very nice filly. She's impressed us from day one, she needed her first run then she won well at Carlisle, where there was a strong headwind but she did it comfortably.
