Ground conditions are set to be testing once again on the second day of the Cheltenham Festival, even though no more significant rain is expected until after racing on Wednesday.

The going was changed from heavy, soft in places to soft, heavy in places after five races on Tuesday, and jockeys remarked on the gruelling nature of the surface.

"It's soft and very hard work," said Richard Johnson, while Sean Bowen called it "tacky, dead and horrible".

Assistant clerk of the course Jane Hedley said: "We changed the ground after five races due to the times and jockey feedback.

"I would expect it to be similar tomorrow. The next significant rain is forecast for Wednesday night into Thursday."
