Tonight on the Flat: the eyecatchers at Chelmsford and Dundalk
The all-weather action comes from Chelmsford and Dundalk this evening and here we pick out three horses it should pay to follow.
Alfredo Arcano
6.00 Dundalk
This three-time course winner beat Aggression by a nose last month and is a few pounds better off with his reopposing rival. He doesn't have as good a draw this time but has the scope to improve and looks capable of following up. Connections resisted offering up the three-year-old in a recent horses in training sale and he can continue to pay his way.
Clear Skies
8.00 Dundalk
The in-form filly goes in hunt of a fourth course win on the bounce for father and son team Aidan and Donnacha O'Brien. Those victories came in the space of 16 days last month and she has really learnt her trade after taking eight attempts to get off the mark. An impressive winner over the extended 1m2f most recently, she should handle the step up in trip and a 7lb rise might not be enough to halt her progress.
Samharry
8.15 Chelmsford
John Gosden sends a handful of runners to Chelmsford and the most interesting of them is Samharry, who returns following an absence of nearly 500 days. Winner of a Doncaster maiden on his sole start, the Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned three-year-old has been gelded ahead of his all-weather bow as he aims to make up for lost time. Gosden is not afraid to run some of his better horses on the all-weather in the depths of winter, so it will be interesting to see how he fares.
