There are a number of runners who have leading claims in this 1m2f handicap and the Richard Fahey-trained Capparis is one of the major players.

The daughter of Iffraaj has yet to get off the mark since making her debut under rules last year, but she has shown steady progress.

She put up a career-best performance when finishing midfield at this track in October and came close to striking at Wolverhampton at the end of last month.

The Phillip Makin-trained Big Dutchie has also fallen short on his last two starts and should not be ruled out, while both Bobby Shaftoe and Mintnthat are the only two runners in a field of 12 to have registered victories in Britain, so they can be considered too.

'He needs to up his game' - Camacho wants to see more from Mister Falsetto

Julie Camacho is hoping to see an improved performance from Mister Falsetto as the three-year-old has his first start since July.

Things have not gone to plan for the Twilight Son gelding, who has yet to win in any of his previous nine starts under rules.

On his most recent appearance he finished third to Persian Royal at Doncaster, and Camacho believes stepping him up to 1m2f might be the answer.

She said: "He's been really disappointing and I thought we'd manage a bit more with him then we have. We've always thought he wanted further, but it's quite a tough mile-two at Newcastle as they often hack so he needs to up his game."

What they say

Ian Jardine, trainer of Mintnthat
He's doing all right. It's a low grade but he's capable in this contest and I think he'll run a nice race so fingers crossed.

Katie Scott, trainer of Justathimble
She's been in good order. We got her in the summer and she ran well enough in her two runs at Newcastle and we were happy with her. Wolverhampton was a bit disappointing, but seven furlongs was far too short for her. Back over ten furlongs at Newcastle will suit and she should run okay. The track should suit her strengths and hopefully she'll be there or thereabouts.

David O’Meara, trainer of Laconic
The trip and the track will suit him and he's doing well so he should be fine.

Linda Perratt, trainer of Pasha Bay
We've tried him over everything so we're back to a mile and a quarter. A mile or just further would be better for him, but we'll keep our fingers crossed. He didn't run too badly on the all-weather last time when he finished fifth.
