The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with Royal Ascot tips for Saturday
BIG-RACE BANKER
Max Dynamite(5.35 Royal Ascot)
Things haven't gone punters' way (unless you're a fan of Frankie Dettori) for the majority of Royal Ascot, but there's only one way to end such a fantastic meeting and that is to go out with a bang. The Queen Alexandra often goes to Irish jumps trainers, with Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott winning four of the last seven runnings between them and hopefully it will be Mullins that is celebrating again. Max Dynamite is his runner, a vastly experienced and talented dual purpose stayer who looks a good thing to my eyes under Ryan Moore. Hopefully it will be a case of how far. Since November 2017 Max Dynamite has run in eight races on the Flat – five Group 1s and three Group 2s. He often finds that level too hard to handle but now drops into a conditions race and can boss these inferior rivals.
DARK HORSE
City Light (4.20 Royal Ascot)
All eyes will be on Blue Point in the Diamond Jubilee as he bids to rack up two successes at Royal Ascot this week following his King's Stand win on Tuesday, but there's no juice in his price and we don't know if he will handle the quick turn around, so I'd much rather take him on and back City Light each-way. This French-trained five-year-old went close in this race last year when filling the runner-up berth and that came after badly missing the start. He has run well in four subsequent starts and had a perfect prep when a half-length second at Maisons-Laffitte. This has been his target and I can't see him out the frame.
EACH-WAY PLAY
Amourice (2.10 Newmarket)
Another horse worth backing on a good day of action is Amourice, who runs in the second at Newmarket for Jane Chapple-Hyam. This staying filly is far from prolific (2-17) but notched the second of her two victories over this course and distance last July off a 2lb higher mark and looks weighted to win again. That win came in first-time blinkers and a hood and having had the blinkers ditched for her three starts this year, where she has shown promise, the headgear goes back on today. She was punted off the boards last time but found the trip too sharp and looks an interesting each-way bet at around 14-1.
