The one race you don't want to miss on Wednesday
Yeomanstown Stud Irish EBF Stakes | 6f, Listed, fillies & mares | RTV
Why is it interesting?
This 6f cavalry charge has produced a winning margin of more than a length only once since 2010 and another exciting finish can be expected.
Little-known trainer John Grogan, who bases himself in Cashel, County Tipperary, won this race in 2011 with Katla, by far the best horse he's trained.
What's the significance of that, you might ask? Well, Rapid Reaction, Grogan's representative this year, is a half-sister to that talented sprinter and like her 16 rivals, she will be bidding to bag some black type.
The British challenge is noteworthy with James Tate pitching in Shimmering Dawn, unbeaten in 2019, and Archie Watson running Probability, a five-time winner this year.
The Richard Hughes-trained Gold Filigree and Hugo Palmer's Heavenly Holly also travel over the Irish Sea, while Willie McCreery spearheads the home brigade with the two top-rated fillies in the line-up, Lethal Promise [100] and Nitro Boost [99]. It promises to be a cracking contest.
What do the stats say?
It is no surprise that Billy Lee, arguably one of the best riders around, especially in sprint races, has a good record in this race having won it twice since 2011.
Lee would appear to hold solid claims of another success as he partners Willie McCreery's Lethal Promise, who is fitted with cheekpieces for the first time.
There haven't been too many shocks in this race in recent years, although last year's winner Sometimesadiamond won at 14-1.
There have also been a decent spread of winners from low and high draws but, as a general rule of thumb, it pays to be drawn low at Naas.
What do the trainers say?
Hugo Palmer, trainer of Heavenly Holly
She didn't quite get home over a stiff seven furlongs at Fairyhouse, so we think dropping back to six should be in her favour. I was impressed by the way she travelled over and back from Ireland last week and she's gone over without a bother again this time. She's been placed in one Listed race, and if can't win this one we'll keep trying.
John Grogan, trainer of Rapid Reaction
If she's in the first three I'll be hard to listen to for the next few days. She's relaxing better over six furlongs lately and will get her ground.
Willie McCreery, trainer of Lethal Promise and Nitro Boost
I was very disappointed with Lethal Promise at the Curragh on Sunday. She half plunged out of the stalls and lost whatever chance she had, so we've put the cheekpieces on to try to get her to concentrate – she's a lot sharper in them at home. Nitro Boost needs to settle to get the six furlongs. To me, she's a five-furlong filly but there are very few opportunities so we have to have a go.
Fozzy Stack, trainer of Woody Creek and Neversaynever
Woody Creek seems to be improving and was a little bit unlucky at the Curragh last time. Neversaynever got a bit of a hold up in the spring and is working her way back. She has plenty of talent, but it's a big ask to be throwing her into a race like this on her return.
Jessica Harrington, trainer of Servalan
She’s in great form and is working well and I'm delighted with how my horses are running. It'll be her first time taking on older horses but she likes Naas, having won there previously.
James Tate, trainer of Shimmering Dawn
She’s very progressive and has been impressive on all three of her starts this year. This is a step up in grade but we think she deserves it and we're confident of a big run. We had the option to go for a big-money handicap or a Listed race, and her owner was keen to go for this.
