Why is it interesting?

You will be hard-pressed to find two classier summer jumpers than Peregrine Run and Jett, who between them have won ten races over fences and boast ratings in the mid-150s.

Only a nose separated the pair in a Grade 3 chase at Killarney last month, with Peregrine Run accounting for the Jessica Harrington-trained Jett, and the old foes clash again in the 2m5f chase (6.10) at Punchestown.

Although the encounter will see the core protagonists race off level weights, which should ensure a tougher task for Peregrine Run, with the Peter Fahey-trained nine-year-old in receipt of 8lb from Jett last time.

Peregrine Run, a seven-time chase winner and partnered by Kevin Sexton, followed up his Killarney triumph by landing the Mayo National at Ballinrobe 15 days later – a performance deemed his best by the official handicapper.

Other contenders chasing a first prize of almost €13,000 include the Gordon Elliott-trained pair Flaxen Flare, the mount of Davy Russell, and Barra, who will be ridden by Jack Kennedy.

The five-runner line-up is completed by the 13-year-old Fergiethelegend, who has plenty to find on ratings.

What do the stats say?

Kevin Sexton will be attempting to make it 3-3 on Peregrine Run, having ridden him to victory at Killarney and Ballinrobe.

Paul Townend has a 45 per cent strike-rate in the past fortnight and rides Jett.

Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy have a 46 per cent strike-rate when teaming up this year and combine with Barra.

What do the trainers say?

Jessica Harrington, trainer of Jett
He’s in good form and if he’s on a going day then he’ll have a very good chance of winning.

Peter Fahey, trainer of Peregrine Run
He came out of his Ballinrobe win really well. That was probably his best effort over fences and as long as the rain stays away we’ll be very hopeful of another big run.

Gordon Elliott, trainer of Flaxen Flare and Barra
Both are in good form. Flaxen Flare has done better over hurdles than fences but has plenty of experience and good ground suits him. The ground will also be fine for Barra, who gets the mares' allowance and should appreciate going back up in trip.
