The Lowdown: going updates, racecards, news and tips for today's racing
Today's news
- MOMENTUM GATHERING: Colin Tizzard and Gary Moore have joined the growing chorus of trainers supporting a five-day Cheltenham Festival. Nicky Henderson, Philip Hobbs and Alan King have all backed an extra festival day, an idea that hasn't been ruled out by new Cheltenham chairman Martin St Quinton.
- PANIC ATTACK: Espoir De Guye was back home safe and sound on Sunday after having a panic attack in his horsebox on the way to Ascot. The six-year-old chaser was heading from Venetia Williams' yard in Herefordshire when he became so upset that the horsebox had to pull over and be attended to by the local fire service, with an on-course vet from Ascot also dispatched to help.
- THURLES SHOCK: Real Steel continued his rise through the chasing ranks with an impressive victory in the Grade 2 Horse & Jockey Hotel Chase at Thurles on Sunday, brushing aside off-form stablemate Footpad to earn quotes of between 8-1 and 14-1 for the Ryanair Chase.
- KEEPING POSITIVE: Adam Nicol will use Lady Buttons as his motivation to get back in the saddle after the unfortunate rider's injury curse struck again. Nicol, the regular jockey of the star mare, only returned to action in September following nine months off due to a broken leg, but now he is on the sidelines again with a back injury.
