The Lowdown: going updates, racecards, news and tips for today's racing
Today's news
- CHANGE OF APPROACH: British racing is awaiting instruction on whether the sport will continue in England and Wales behind closed doors, as in Ireland and Scotland, or shut down entirely following reports mass gatherings are set to be banned in an attempt to curb the spread of coronavirus.
- REPEAT WIN: Al Boum Photo joined exalted company when he successfully retained his Cheltenham Gold Cup crown under Paul Townend on a marvellous Friday for the jockey and Al Boum Photo's trainer Willie Mullins.
- STUNNING FIGHTBACK: Ireland's champion trainer Mullins took the first four races on the final day of the festival and walked off with not just the Gold Cup but the award for top trainer.
- OUT OF LUCK: Philip Hobbs was left ruing a frustrating Friday at Cheltenham after Thyme Hill suffered a torrid passage in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle and Pileon was mugged on the line in the Martin Pipe, results which came two days after Defi Du Seuil's disappointing run in the Queen Mother Champion Chase.
